What is Coaching and how can it
Help my Family?

Although being a Licensed Clinical Social Worker is not a prerequisite to being a coach, the education and professional background of a Social Worker enhances a coach's ability for empathy.
It also helps when your coach is trained to listen, and perhaps seek out what may be underlying factors affecting different parenting concerns.

I have experience as a family therapist, adding to an extensive background in facilitating parenting support groups and making many professional presentations on parenting topics and resources.
Coaching is a wonderful way to get concrete ideas to help with day-to-day parenting concerns. Much less formal than counseling or therapy, it can provide tried and true techniques and help you expand your thoughts about parenting.  It helps you look at parenting issues from another perspective, helps you change negative or destructive patterns of behavior and opens your mind and heart to a more fulfilling and rewarding parenting experience.

Unlike traditional family therapy, a coach can be objective and yet involved in the actual behavior changes or changes in routine that may be needed.  The coach is an active participant in helping with suggestions for the family to help everyone work together harmoniously.  Whether it is a behavior issue like biting and/or hitting, sibling rivalry, sleep issues, nutrition, the coach can give you concrete ideas to move past issues and grow together.

A coach can work with one person in the family who can bring the ideas back for everyone to work with.  The coaching can be over the phone, on an as-needed basis, or even through E-mail exchanges.  And the fees are reasonable!!
